I am thinking of trying a noise gate to keep blower noise out of my background during transmit. I have never used any outboard audio gear so I have no idea where to start or if the use of a noise gate would help? Any ideas or what brand to buy would be appreciated.

Gee Bill, that mostly will depend on how much you want to spend. The W2IHY has an 8 band equalizer with noise gate. You can read about them at his website. http://w2ihy.com/Default.asp
They can be bought used from time to time but be sure you get the cable you need if you choose this model. There are other brands out there but this is a good place to read and understand a bit before you buy. Of course there are professional stuff out there too. John, K5PRO over in Los Alamos is selling some audio stuff and you can check with him about what he has. John is a straight up guy and will tell you anything you want to know. I don't have his email, but you can find him over on the AM Radio email reflector. If you don't know about it, let me know and I will direct you to it. w5jpw@yahoo.com Jim/W5JO |

I have never noticed much blower noise when I am receiving your signal. I wouldn't bother with a noise gate.
